You've watched 17 seasons of The Simpsons on television. You forked out your hard-earned cash to watch The Simpsons Movie in your local mondoplex. Now you can control Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and occasionally Maggie in Electronic Arts' The Simpsons Game, coming to your Xbox LIVE or Playstation Home on October 30th.

The Simpsons Game Official Press Release

"The Simpsons Game demo is now available on Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation® Home!

"In this full episode demo entitled "Shadow of the Colossal Donut," one of Springfield’s creepiest enemies from the Treehouse of Horror VI comes back to life. After being shot by Kang and Kodos’ Halloween ray, the giant Lard Lad statue has come to life and runs amuck through the industrial center of Springfield. With Kent Brockman providing play-by-play commentary from Chopper 7, it is up to our heroes Homer and Bart to work together, use their unique abilities, and bring this monstrous mechanical man to his knees.

Developed at Electronic Arts’ Redwood Shores Studio, The Simpsons Game is based on an original script created by the TV show’s Emmy Award-winning writers, Tim Long, Matt Selman and Matt Warburton."

This is but one of the many levels in The Simpsons Game, where intrepid gamers must rescue Springfield's favourite family from electronic purgatory.

Some of The Simpsons Game Levels

Other levels in The Simpsons Game include "Around the World in 80 Bites," an international food-eating contest at the Duff Brewery. Homer's tutorial level is in "The Land of Chocolate," based on a daydream hehad during the episode Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk (#46). "Medal of Homer," features Bart and Homer playing soldiers in Second World War-era France, and "Tree Huggers," is a level where Bart and Lisa must fight loggers in a forest.

"Mob Rules," features Marge and Lisa starting a riot against a proposed new game, Grand Theft Scratchy: Blood Island. "Big Super Happy Fun Fun Game," features Homer and Lisa dressed as stereotypical anime characters in a parody of Japanese games with possible RPG elements, and "Neverquest," depicts Homer and Marge as elvish warriors in a parody of fantasy games and stories like The Legend of Zelda and The Lord of the Rings.

The official website also refers to a level as "God of Wharf" featuring Bart and Lisa fighting murderous dolphins.

The Simpsons Game is rated for Teens, with the ubiquitous warning label telling nervous consumers that this game features "alcohol and tobacco references, animated blood, cartoon violence, crude humour, language and suggestive themes." So it's essentially there's nothing that we haven't already seen in this summer's Surf's Up or the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Fun Fact: The animated Lard Lad statue is an homage to the 1984 live-action horror comedy Ghostbusters. During the climax of the movie, the villainous god Gozer demands that the Ghostbusters decide upon their (and New York City's) doom. The other Ghostbusters immediately clear their minds but Dr. Ray Stanz (played by Dan Aykroyd) thinks of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. At which point, the sailor-suited mascot appears in the city and starts trampling everything in its path.
