Aardman's award-winning animation is coming to a cell phone near you.
The Bristol-based studio announced that Player X Mobile Entertainment will be Aardman's exclusive North American distributor of mobile video content. Player X has already inked deals with two North American cell phone carriers with more to follow.
Aardman Animation has already put several Wallace and Gromit, Angry Kid and Creature Comforts shorts on Player X, and it will be releasing several made-for-mobile shorts such as Purple & Brown and Shaun the Sheep.
Player X already exclusively distributes Aardman's claymation across Scandinavia and on 02 UK. Later this month, it will launch an all-Aardman channel on its 02 UK deck.
“Aardman has a strong portfolio of digital content, many of our films are among the top-rated mobile downloads in the UK and we are looking forward to working with Player X to reach North American audiences,” said Robin Gladman, Digital Content Manager at Aardman.
“We already enjoy a very productive and innovative relationship with Aardman and it’s a natural progression to extend this relationship across the Atlantic," said Player X CEO Tony Pearce. "Millions of people have seen Aardman content such as Angry Kid online and we’re delighted to be taking this content to mobile.”
Player X is also sponsoring an Aardman short film competition. The winner (announced sometime near the end of the next three months) will get full market support for the exclusive global rights of the entry.
