Country Crust White Bread finds himself on the extinction list as Dr. Atkinz's low carb revolution takes the world by storm.

Bang, Bang You're Bread (2008) is a short, hilarious 3-D animated mockumentary that follows the plight of Country Crust Bread – a lovable, but terribly insecure loaf of bread wrapped up in green plastic and psychotic rage towards the father of the low carb revolution, Dr. Atkinz.

Written, directed and animated by Australian animator Mitchell Wade Bang Bang You’re Bread pokes fun at the low carb/high protein diet craze that swept North America. Several eccentric food items, two proteins (Bacon and Patty) and two simple carbs (Sucky Sucker and Fairy Bread), give interviews in a local supermarket on the subject of Country Crust Bread’s demise.

The Bacon and Patty Interview

Across from the bread aisle, Bacon and Patty gloat over their newfound celebrity status in a culture hell-bent on saving lives off the back of ham, pig or poultry. Bacon is happily married to Patty, a shy, round-faced ground beef patty who remains silent throughout the interview except for the occasional grunts of approval during her husband’s pro-meat sermon. As Bacon points out, “Baby, if wanna live forever, you gotta suck on a sirloin.”

A Sexy Sucker Lollipop Tell All

Nearby, sexy Sucky Sucker sits crossed-legged while staring straight into the camera with her delicious bedroom eyes. As jazz music plays in the backgound, the gorgeous lollipop expounds on the virtues of hard candy while a trail of smoke winds its way up from a ciggie hanging off her right foot. She says that she feels sorry for Country Crust and reminds the audience, “It’s a tough supermarket out there.”

Proud to be Fairy Bread

Lastly, Fairy Bread (in oppose to “Scary Bread”), sprays sprinkles on a fellow slice of bread while listening to the beat of club music. Unlike his plain carb counterpart, Fairy Bread is betting that spraying a few sprinkles all over his (super) fabulous body will allow him to tap into the party circuit and avoid the demise awaiting Country Crust.

Witty dialogue, interesting characters, and beautiful animation graphics gives Bang, Bang You’re Bread the edge it needs to entertain while delivering a biting social commentary on a diet craze gone overboard. In 2008, this short won the Aniboom Award in the “Community” category, and, judging from the comments expressed on other websites, is quickly becoming a favourite among animation fans around the world.
